The return of in-person meetings and events is truly exciting news for San Mateo County! We are here to help answer your questions and break down what you need to know before you book your next meeting or event in San Mateo County.
WHEN CAN I START TO HOST EVENTS IN SAN MATEO COUNTY?
Good news! As of June 15, California moved “Beyond the Blueprint,” which ended the color-coded reopening tier systems and lifted most restrictions on businesses. San Mateo County is now fully aligned with all state COVID-19 health and safety guidelines and all meetings and events are allowed in San Mateo County as permitted by the State of California.
CALIFORNIA'S TIER SYSTEM HAS BEEN LIFTED, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR SAN MATEO COUNTY?
As of June 15, California's tier system was retired and many restrictions were lifted. These changes include no more capacity limitations and no physical distancing restrictions for attendees, customers, and guests. Nonetheless, for large outdoor events with more than 10,000 attendees, the state still recommends that event organizers require attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. As an alternative to showing proof, attendees will have the option to wear masks. For large indoor events with more than 5,000 attendees, event organizers will need to require attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.
These requirements and recommendations will be in place through October 1. The state will assess conditions by September 1 to determine whether updated requirements or recommendations are needed beyond October 1, 2021.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE THE COVID TESTING AND/OR VACCINE RECORD CHECK-IN PROCESS?
Each venue should help you when planning this piece of your event, but ultimately it is the meeting planner’s responsibility to make sure this is coordinated properly. If you need advice on how to properly handle this, check out the recent webinar we hosted that answered many of these questions.
We also have two amazing Covid testing resources we recommended: Discovery Health Services, who can provide on-site wellness services including Coivd-testing for groups, and Lookout Health a local Redwood City-based company that can provide rapid and reliable COVID-19 screening services for your event or workplace, and they also offer a testing concierge service where you can get a singular test at your home, office or hotel room.
