The return of in-person meetings and events is truly exciting news for San Mateo County! We are here to help answer your questions and break down what you need to know before you book your next meeting or event in San Mateo County.

WHEN CAN I START TO HOST EVENTS IN SAN MATEO COUNTY?

Indoor and outdoor events are now allowed in San Mateo County and we welcome them!

CALIFORNIA'S TIER SYSTEM HAS BEEN LIFTED, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR SAN MATEO COUNTY?

Indoor events of 1,000 people or more require organizers to ask attendees to show proof of vaccination. Individuals unable to provide proof of vaccination may show proof of a negative test. Tests must have been conducted in the last 1 day for an antigen test, or 2 days for a PCR test. In addition, face coverings are required if the attendee is not vaccinated. If the attendee is vaccinated, face coverings are recommended.

For large outdoor events with more than 10,000 attendees, proof of vaccination are highly encouraged. Self-attestation or a negative COVID test may be used at the discretion of the event's organizer. If the attendee is not vaccinated, face coverings are required in indoor areas such as restrooms, restaurants, retail shops, etc. If the attendee is vaccinated, face coverings are recommended.

Stay up-to-date with California requirements and recommendations for mega-events to reduce COVID-19.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE THE COVID TESTING AND/OR VACCINE RECORD CHECK-IN PROCESS?

Each venue should help you when planning this piece of your event, but ultimately it is the meeting planner’s responsibility to make sure this is coordinated properly. If you need advice on how to properly handle this, check out the recent webinar we hosted that answered many of these questions.

We also have two amazing COVID testing resources we recommended: Discovery Health Services, who can provide on-site wellness services including COVID-testing for groups, and Lookout Health a local Redwood City-based company that can provide rapid and reliable COVID-19 screening services for your event or workplace, and they also offer a testing concierge service where you can get a singular test at your home, office or hotel room.

In addition, there are many free COVID testing sites in San Mateo County that attendees can visit prior to attending the event.
