SCOTT G. GORMAN

EXECUTIVE CHEF

Early beginnings

Chef Gorman started training at the age of 16 in his hometown with Swiss Master Gaspard Caloz at Chez Madeleine. While attending the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Gorman was awarded the opportunity to travel to Frankfurt, Germany as an apprentice to the 1992 Big Apple Culinary Olympic Team. Shortly thereafter he started his role at the prestigious 5-star St. Regis Hotel in New York City as a Chef de Partie under the direction of Chef Michel Carrer. During this time, Chef Gorman acquired many banquet technique skills that he still utilizes to this day.

CAREER AND ENDEAVORS

Chef Gorman had the opportunity to reunite with his mentor, Chef Caloz, when he branched out and opened a second property, Madeleine’s Petit Paris, naming Chef Gorman as his Chef de Cuisine. After two years at Madeleine’s Petit Paris in New Jersey, Chef Gorman returned to Manhattan and joined the brigade at the 5-diamond New York Palace Hotel as Sous Chef, where he met his wife Nicole. During this time, Chef Gorman had the opportunity to travel and cook for dignitaries including The Crowned Prince of Saudi Arabia and The Rolling Stones. In 2000 Chef Gorman was offered the Executive Chef and Director of Food & Beverage Director the Rockaway Hunting Club, and then accepted a position as Banquet Chef and later promoted to Executive Chef at Embassy Suites, located in the heart of the World Financial District in Battery Park City. While at Embassy Suites, Chef Gorman was selected to be the pilot chef for the Flying Spoons concept and developed the role out for the press.

In 2010, Chef Gorman and his family were relocated by Starwood Hotels and resorts to the Bay Area where he joined the team at The San Mateo Marriott & Evolution Hospitality. Chef Gorman resides in San Mateo and thoroughly enjoys life on the peninsula.

Since arriving he has not only reshaped the restaurant & event menus but has put a strong focus on the wine program. Chef Gorman’s cuisine continues to evolve with his travels. While he is still true to his roots and classical French training, his appreciation of Mediterranean, Caribbean & Indian spices shine through in many of his dishes.
