Farms & Docks on The San Francisco Peninsula

While one doesn’t normally think of Silicon Valley as a farm country, there is a small farming community, located mainly on our Pacific Coastside, from Pescadero to Pacifica. Some of these farms offer seasonal “U-Pick it” family fun options! Popular "U-Pick" produce includes strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pumpkins, and more. Additionally, other local farms offer roadside farm stands with the freshest produce you can imagine!

FARM TOURS

Some of our coast side farms offer unique behind-the-scenes tours. Harley Farms Goat Dairy, located in Pescadero, offers guided tours of their dairy facility where you can interact with baby goats and other animals, take a stroll through their edible garden, and get a special peek inside the cheese-making facility. Ouroboros Farms Aquaponics and Education Center, located right off Highway 92 in Half Moon Bay is an experience not to be missed! Stop by for a tour and see the future of food with a 30,000-gallon fishery that provides nutrients used to grow crops using aquaponics.

HALF MOON BAY PUMPKINS

Planning a visit to The San Francisco Peninsula during the fall harvest or “pumpkin season” is a must. You’ll find all kinds of fall-themed fun activities along the coast in Half Moon Bay! From U-Pick pumpkins to pony rides and face painting to hayrides, corn mazes, and pumpkin patches, there are so many things to do in the Bay Area during this fabulous fall season! Not to mention the famous Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival — the pride and joy of our coast!

FRESH SEAFOOD

If you are looking for delicious seafood in Half Moon Bay, you must visit Pillar Point Harbor. In this quaint but sophisticated fishing village, you can buy fresh crab and fish right off the boats, head out on a deep-sea fishing or whale watching tour, or simply wander the harbor and catch a glimpse of local wildlife while enjoying the cool sea breeze. While walking the harbor docks, be sure to grab a bite to eat and a beverage at local favorite, Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. If you are looking to purchase crab or fresh fish from the docks, be sure to check out the Pillar Point Fishline App where you can see which boat is selling which seafood before you drive over to visit.

As Fresh As It Gets

"AS FRESH AS IT GETS”

Many of the restaurants and hotels on The San Francisco Peninsula purchase products grown and made from our local farms. Whether you are out to eat at a farm-to-table restaurant, ordering room service from one of our amazing hotels, or even at the local farmers market, be sure to look for the “As Fresh as it Gets” (AFAIG) logo, which signifies that the business you are supporting serves local farm-fresh food. The AFAIG Program is a great way to learn what produce is in season on The San Francisco Peninsula, as well as which establishments are serving the freshest ingredients. Sign up for our quarterly AFAIG Newsletter to stay up-to-date on all the freshest news.
